CBS 3 anchorwoman arrested

It's been reported that CBS 3 anchor Alycia Lane has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman police officer and charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury.

The officer suffered lacerations to her face. It seems that she called the officer a dyke and landed a punch on her face. Apparently she and her boyfriend were annoyed to be stuck behind the slow moving unmarked police car that the officer, together with two male officers, was in.

Her boyfriend confronted the officers at a red light. She also got out when the officers started questioning her boyfriend and she started taking pictures. When told to step back, she lost control.

She and her boyfriend were travelling in a taxi cab.

Road rage from inside a cab?

She recently gained notoriety for sending e-mails with bikini snaps of herself to married Rich Nelson, the NFL Network anchorman. They were intercepted by his wife.

There is clearly more to this reporter than just a pretty face.

Golden Globes – the nominations are announced

Well, there weren't too many surprises.

As widely predicted, both There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men got nominated for Best Picture, amongst seven nominations.

One of the nominations was the British movie Atonement, a drama of a World War II love story. The Brits are pretty excited as the film has totally reaped nominations for seven awards – including Best Actress for Keira Knightley, Best Actor for James McAvoy, Best Supporting Actress for Saoirse Ronan, Best Director for Joe Wright, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. With 7 nominations, Atonement pretty much led the field. It will be a long day of celebrations and congratulations in the British film fraternity.

I will not bore you with all the details, but you may be interested to know that some of your favourite stars have also been nominated, including Julie Christie, Jodie Foster and Angelina Jolie for Best Actress; and George Clooney, Denzel Washington and Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor.

The Golden Globes Nominations

The nominations will be announced very shortly. The hot favourites for best film are There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men.

No Country For Old Men was recently named Best Picture of 2007 by the National Board of Motion Pictures, and is also backed by the New York Film Critics Circle. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has lent its support to There Will Be Blood.

There is also a chance for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to score in the musical category. Tim Burton got Best Director for that movie in the National Board of Motion Pictures round of honours.

I wonder if there aren't too many award ceremonies going on, when everyone (well not everyone exactly) is still bedazzled by the “real” Oscars. Do we really need to be prepared for the big one with so many award ceremonies? Makes you feel a bit dizzy, doesn't it?

Anyway, keep watching this space. Will post you the results asap.

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren - Breaking News

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren will be parents by early next summer, as Alba's pregnancy has been officially confirmed.

This will be their first child. Alba is 26 and Warren is 28.

Alba met Warren during the filming of The Fantastic Four. He was working as a director's assistant.

Something about Adrian Monk

My recent favourite TV comedy show is Mr. Monk. It's light-weight but not full of non-sense like many other shows that present a totally artificial and forced story and trying so hard to get a few laughs. The only laughs they get are from the canned laughter from the show itself.

Mr. Monk stands out from among the rest. Each character is beautifully crafted and has his/her own personality, yet the characters mesh together and support each other flawlessly. I used to really like Sharona, Mr. Monk's assistant and was sad to see her leave the show. It took a few episodes for me to get adjusted to Natalie Teeger. I found her somewhat nasal tones a little jarring. But she has grown into her part. And full marks to her!

Lt. Disher is a gem. I really love it when he gets caught out doing something stupid by Stottlemeyer, who reprimands him with his gruff voice or a hopeless grimace with a bit of a snort. Disher plays his part beautifully. His comical expressions is natural and you just can't help to laugh.

Tony Shalhoub, aka Mr. Monk, is actually a well-seasoned actor. And this series has brought him to the forefront of viewers' attention. He has played other roles with equal finesse, but somehow remained somewhat faceless (to me anyway) until he became Mr. Monk. Only after re-watching some older movies did I realise that he was the weird scientist in Spy Kids, and that he was the leading character in the horror movie 13 Ghosts. In fact, he has played many roles in many movies, and it's a pleasant surprise to identify him accidentally: “Oh, that's Mr. Monk!”

His background is also a little bit different. He is thoroughly American - of Lebanese origins. His father emigrated from Lebanon to the US and married Tony Shalhoub's mother, a second generation Lebanese American. He is one of a number of Lebanese Americans who have excelled in the US, on stage, screen and in public life.

A new venture

I am starting this blog about movies, tv and music, and entertainment generally. I hope visitors will derive some enjoyment out of it, and will visit often.

I know there is a keen interest in this area. And why not - who doesn't like to be entertained? And there is never any shortage of new things from movies and tv and the music industry that seem to be just happening all the time. So I hope I can contribute with some comments now and again and keep this blog alive and interesting.

So that's my introductory post.
